DanceI Am a Dancer

I am a dancer.
I wonder if one day I can make a name for myself out there.

I hear the rhythm of every sound that’s made around me.
I see myself dancing with some of the best in the world,

and

I want to prove that one day it will actually happen.
I am a dancer.

I pretend I’m up on stage, and that I’m the best there is.
I feel the movements even after I’ve stopped moving.
When I touch the bar to warm up, I know that I’m home.
I worry that I’ll make a mistake in front of everyone.
I cry at times when I get frustrated, and I can’t get the moves right.
I am a dancer.

I understand that I have a long road ahead of me, but
I say, with determination, “I can accomplish anything.”
I dream about dancing, and every night
I try to practice in order to get better.
I hope one day I’ll be applauded for my skill, but mostly for my passion.
I am a dancer.

DANCE METHODS brochure

Thank you for welcoming me into your studio as a new adult student of dance. Seven years later, I remain as excited as I was the first day, continually discovering new techniques, new forms of dance, new friends, new joy, and a new sense of accomplishment.”
